At Childworks Therapy Clinic, we know that starting therapy can feel like a big step for both you and your child. Whether you are coming to see us for speech and language concerns or specialized feeding support, we want you to feel right at home the moment you walk through our doors in Sioux City.
We believe that the best therapy happens when children are happy, engaged, and—most importantly—having fun. Here is a look at how we partner with your family to unlock your child’s potential.
Phase 1: The Evaluation (The Deep Dive)
Your first visit is usually a 45-minute to 1-hour session dedicated entirely to understanding your child’s unique "blueprint."
During this time, we focus on:
Listening to You: You are the expert on your child. we start by discussing your specific concerns and goals.
Formal & Informal Assessment: We use a mix of standardized testing and "clinical play" to observe how your child communicates, interacts, and (if applicable) handles different food textures.
The Roadmap: Before you leave, we discuss our findings and collaborate on a Plan of Care tailored to your family’s needs.
Phase 2: Play-Based, Child-Led Therapy
Most of our patients transition into weekly care where we target functional goals. If you peek into one of our treatment rooms, it might look like we are "just playing"—and that is exactly the point!
Why Play Over Drills? Research shows that children learn best through movement and engagement. When a child is playing, their brain is firing in a way that creates new motor neurons and neural pathways. This "brain-building" is significantly more effective for communication than repetitive drills.
By following your child’s lead, we discover what motivates them. Whether it’s a favorite toy, a silly game, or a sensory bin, we use that motivation to expand their vocabulary and build the communication skills they need for the real world.
Phase 3: The Secret Sauce (Home Implementation)
Here is a bit of "speech therapist " candor: Most children spend only 30 to 60 minutes a week with us. That represents less than 1% of their waking hours!
For your child to make the fastest progress possible, the "magic" has to happen at home. We focus on:
Parent Empowerment: We’ll show you easy ways to implement therapy targets into your daily routines—like bath time, car rides, or dinner.
Consistency: Just like learning an instrument or a sport, consistency is key. Regular attendance combined with home practice is the fastest "accelerant" for growth.
Let’s Grow Together
At Childworks, we aren't just your child’s therapists; we are your teammates. When we combine our clinical expertise with your knowledge of your child, there is no limit to what they can achieve.
Are you ready to see the power of play in action?
